APRIL CLASSROOM NEWS:
April Classroom News
We had an exciting week watching the chicks hatch in our classroom the past few days! We had a total of ten chicks, which may be the largest amount ever. The children were able to hold and pet the chicks during our group lessons and took turns observing them during worktime. The children were very gentle with the chicks and eager to make sure they always had plenty of food and water. We were sad to see them leave on Friday, and we will miss their peeping sounds in our classroom!
This week the children are looking forward to our spring egg hunt on Wednesday, April 16th ! If your child does not normally attend school on Wednesdays, he/she is welcome to join us for the scheduled time of our egg hunts. The morning-only children are scheduled for 9:45 – 10:15 am and the afternoon only and full-day children are scheduled for 1:00 – 1:30 pm.
We are requesting that each family brings a minimum of 12 filled eggs for the egg hunt no later than tomorrow, April 14th. In the past, eggs have been filled with individually wrapped candies, stickers or small toys. Please make sure that all edible items are NUT-FREE.
We will not have school this Friday, April 18th or the following Monday, April 21st .
When the children return to school on Tuesday, April 22nd, we will begin our final thematic units which will focus on insects and plants. We will be receiving some caterpillars in our classroom in early May. We will watch as each caterpillar creates a chrysalis and emerges as a butterfly. We will also start some flower seeds in our classroom for the children to take home and plant outside as the weather continues to get warmer.
A reminder that our final field trip this year will be to Spring Creek Prairie in Denton on Tuesday, May 20th . We will meet there for activities from 9:30 – 11:00 am. After the children have finished with our tour and snack time, we will return to MSYC between 11:45 – 12:00. I will send home a permission slip in Thursday folders next month.
